How to create a Free shipping bar discount?

Last updated on May 6, 2026

Set up a shipping discount bar with DealUp to offer customers shipping incentives based on their total cart value. This feature includes a progress bar widget that displays on the cart page, cart drawer, or product page, showing customers exactly how much more they need to spend to qualify for a discount.

Step 1: Create an Offer with DealUp

Follow these steps to set up a new offer in DealUp:
  1. Click on Free shipping bar option from Dashboard.
  2. Click on Create Campaign button.
  3. Select your discount type: Automatic or Code (indicated by “1” in the image below).

    • DealUp allows you to create up to 25 automatic discounts and 500 code-based discounts across all types.

    • Shopify automatically applies automatic discounts during the checkout process.

💡 Automatic discounts remain active even if the app embed is turned off. You cannot test this discount type in a draft theme because it automatically applies to your live store while active. To stop the discount, you must deactivate it manually in DealUp.

    • Our app automatically applies discount codes at checkout with DealUp.

💡 You can test code discounts in a draft theme. When the app embed is disabled in a theme, DealUp discounts will not apply there. This lets you disable the app in your live theme and enable it in a draft theme for testing.
  4. In the Title field (labeled “2” in the image), enter a name for your discount. This text will serve as the discount code that customers see and apply at checkout within DealUp.

Step 2: Selecting Eligible Countries

Country-Specific Discounts

You can choose which countries qualify for your discounts. There are two primary options:

  • All countries:
This setting applies the discount globally by default. You can still use the Select countries to exclude feature to remove specific locations from the offer.

  • Selected countries

Choosing this option allows you to manually select the specific countries where your DealUp discount will be applied.

Step 3: Configuring Discount Tiers

Then, select the discount type you want to build. You can pick from these options (labeled "1" in the image below) using DealUp.

  • Percentage Discount: Apply a specific percentage reduction to your store's current shipping fees using DealUp.

  • Fixed Discount: Apply a set amount discount to any existing shipping fees in your store with DealUp.

Next, define the cart value and shipping discount for each tier (marked “2” in the image). DealUp allows you to create up to 5 tiers. Note that if you set a 100% discount, it functions as free shipping and no further tiers can be added.

💡 Cart value refers to the subtotal before any other discounts are applied. Because Shopify processes discounts in parallel, using the post-discount cart value can lead to inconsistent results.

Step 4: Setting Up Optional Settings for DealUp

  • Exclude shipping rates over a certain amount (Marked “1” in the above image)
    • Enable this setting to limit shipping discounts to rates below a specific price. When active, DealUp will not apply discounts to any shipping method that exceeds your chosen threshold.
    • Example: If your store has shipping rates of $10, $20, and $30, and you set the limit to $20, the discount will only apply to the $10 and $20 options.
  • Also apply discount for B2B customers (Marked “2” in the above image)
    • Enable this option to extend shipping discounts to your B2B customers. Once activated, DealUp discount widgets will become visible to these customers during their shopping experience.
💡 This feature is compatible only with B2B accounts created natively in Shopify. It does not support B2B accounts managed or classified by third-party apps. Use DealUp to ensure your wholesale discount strategies apply correctly to your official Shopify B2B customers.
  • Shipping discount is applicable for local delivery (Marked “3” in the above image)
    • Enable this setting to include local delivery rates in your DealUp discount.
  • Shipping discount is applicable for pickup points (Marked “4” in the above image)
    • Enable this setting to include pickup rates in your DealUp discount.

Step 5: Select Customer Eligibility (Optional)

In this section, define which customers are eligible for the DealUp discount by choosing from these three options:

  • All Customers: By default, DealUp makes the discount available to every customer.

  • Specific Customers: Choose this option to offer the discount only to certain individuals. You can then browse and select specific customers from your existing list.

  • Specific Customer Tags: Choose this option to limit the discount to customers who have a specific tag assigned to them.

💡 The Customer Eligibility setting applies exclusively to automatic discounts and cannot be used with discount codes. DealUp only supports this feature for automatic discount types.

Step 6: Select Your Discount Combination Strategy

In this section, select which discount types from DealUp, Shopify, or third-party apps can be combined with your current discount. You can enable combinations with:

  • Product discounts
  • Order discounts
💡 Make sure to enable discount combinations in the other discount you want to pair with DealUp.

Step 7: Select Active Dates for Your DealUp Offer

Once created and saved, the DealUp discount activates automatically.

  • Start Date: To launch your discount later, schedule it by selecting your preferred date and time in DealUp.

  • End Date (Optional): Set an expiration date and time to automatically deactivate your DealUp discount after a specific period.

💡 If your store uses a legacy theme (non-Shopify 2.0) or features a cart drawer/slide-out cart, the DealUp widget cannot be positioned via app blocks. Instead, you must use a CSS selector for manual placement. Please contact our support team for free assistance with this setup.
